The Method of Faith

1Samuel 17: 31-49

This Philistine went into David for a battle. The conclusion is that the stones sank into his forehead and he died. This story gives a very important lesson. This era was the era in which Israelites were bothered by Philistine people. Because Philistines were so big and the Israelites were so small so they came to bother Israelites all the time. However, there was no one from Israelites was able to go up against Philistines and win. Then this courageous man called David came to King Saul. What's David's occupation? He was not an army man who practiced fighting with the sword and a shield. He was a little shepherd boy who attended flock. He was a little boy who just always ran around with his sheep and he came and told Saul, "I will fight!" If you look at him from outer appearance, he was weak. Among the Israelites, you can see him as the weakest. First of all, he was very young and second of all he was a shepherd boy. Truly among the Israelites, there must be many army men who were better at fighting but everyone just gave up. There was no one who was willing to fight.

The great thing about David is that he fought with his own method. It is not Saul's method but David's own method. What is this method? This method is the method of faith. On daily basis, David lives his life by this method of faith. This is not that one day he suddenly overcame with that faith but he lived his life following this method of faith. Then he just wore with his daily clothes and he took the staff and the stones from the stream. Outwardly, David's method of faith is something very funny. However, this method of faith allowed David to win the Philistine. People may wonder, "How are you going to change the world with this kind of method?" However, we have to remember is that fighting with the method of the world doesn’t mean we can be victorious. King Saul tried to fight with his methods. He tried to fight against the Philistines with the amour, spear and shield but failed. This method of David seems absurd but with this method of faith, David won the battle that King Soul could not overcome. The truly important thing is that on our walk of faith, we have to do everything with this method of faith. We can not win with the method of the world.

David was the one who truly relied on God. Faith is not relying on ourselves but truly depending on God. This is what allows us to win the world. This is wisdom and this is the secret of David’s method which allows him to win. This secret method is faith. We have to live by this method. When we live by faith, people would laugh and think we are outrageous and funny. Honestly speaking, no one would expect anything from David but David went out because no one would go. But the conclusion is that he won. When he won, probably the atmosphere completely flipped over. When we are up against the obstacles, during that time until we win, people would laugh; however, if we win, the atmosphere would change. The conclusion is that he won and no one could laugh. How much did Saul live depending on the sword and spear? But he failed. In the eyes of the Lord, what kind of faith must we have? We must have this kind of faith like David. Inside David, we see such great courage. However, he was not great just because he merely had courage. Having courage is important but more importantly, with that courage he fought with the method of God. What David said was, "for the battle is the Lord's." We must have the faith which allows God to enter and to help us.

Let's us truly have this special faith. When you have this, you can win over everything. I hope with this kind of method, you can be victories in all your life.
